The town stocks were much used in the past for the punishment of petty offences, they originally stood at the southwest corner of the old market house between 1805-1886, but were remounted in 1910.
Approximately a mile from Dromore, on the banks of the River Lagan, stands the Scutch Mill of the McConville family. Built at the turn of the century, it gave employment to many of the local people until the demand for linen fell. Now, thanks to the present generation of the family, the mill has been fully restored and is well worth a visit.
Harry Ferguson, the famous tractor magnate, was born at Growell, Ballykeel, about four miles from the town. Another famous son is Sam Ferris who ran in three Olympic marathons. On the third Saturday in August the local running club still remember Sam and hold races in his honour.
