Just an address change in the hopes someone may uncover a bit to help my research. My ggg-grandfather was a Thomas Preston born about 1797 and married Jane Guthrie born 1799? I believe they were from Quilly, Dromore Parish. They had children Thomas (b.1825), George Wellington Albert (born 1827), Robert (b. 1830), William (b.1833), and Samuel (b.1838). I'm interested in finding out who Thomas Preston's parents were, and if Thomas had siblings, and also Jane's parents and siblings. If anyone has knowledge of Thomas Preston/Jane Guthrie. To my knowledge my ancestor George W.A. Preston came to America in the late 1840's, showing up in the 1850 Census for Reading, PA as a laborer and a boarder with the Connaughy family.

I have just found this amazing website! Well done to all concerned.

My great grandfather Willian Farnen married Anne Fagen and arrived in England ( Liverpool) some time prior to the birth of their first child in 1878. They both came from Dromore but I have no information at all about either of their families.

Any information would be much appreciate.

I hope one day to visit Dromore for myself.

Please email judithbona@yahoo.co.uk

Hello Dromore,

My g-g-g-grandfather and mother, John and Charlotte Hume (or Humes) were apparently from Dromore in the 1820's to 1830's. Their son Samuel left to come to America. I don't have any other information on John and Charlotte, or any other children or ancestors. Just a mention on Samuel's baptismal letter from the Protestant church in Letterkenny that John and Charlotte were from Dromore. I saw your link to family history on your home page, but it goes off to a dead end. Can you tell me what old records may exist for Dromore in the early 19th century, or point me in the direction of a person or a site that may be able to help me in my quest?

Thanks!

In search of ancestors with surname Allsence, I hereby claim with my father, Philip J. Aulson, to make the Aulson to Allsence to Allsence-Ireland connection first!

Hope to someday set foot in this beautiful land!

- Sean T. Aulson

-----------------------

My family and I have been trying to trace a particular surname in our family tree that was changed. The original name was "Allsence" and it was changed to Aulson. We are quite excited to find a reference in the 1776 Belfast news to an Alexander Allsence who appears to be leasing some land in Dromore. Can you recommend any genealogy services in the Northern Ireland area that could assist us in doing some research? (or, are there some that we should avoid?).

Hi:
My father (David James Chambers) was born in 1898 and lived with his mother and
paternal grandmother on Gallows Street, Dromore where his mother died in 1900. I
will be visiting N.Ireland with my best when I retire next year. I have a couple of questions:
1) Would there be old maps of Dromore so that I can see exactly
where he lived;

2) Would there be an index of the graveyard back this far so that I can see where my very young grandmother is buried;

3) my father was baptized Unitarian - is this church still situated in Dromore? If anyone knows the answers or can point me in the right direction, I would surely appreciate it.
My e-mail address is: gayle.berry@nrc.ca
I love this site - your Webmaster can be very proud of it. Thanks.

Wilson Mill
I am looking for information regarding the Wilson Mill and cottage near it. A great- great uncle of mine went back to Dromore in the 1890's and took a picture of the mill and cottage. They were both owned in the 1700's by the Wilson family, one of whose descendants was the American President Woodrow Wilson. I am planning to visit Dromore in the latter part of June 2002 and I would like to know if the mill is still standing or if there is any information available about it. Thanks very much. Kate McKenzie - 10.8.2005
Looking for any details of my great grandfather James McKenzie (probably McKensey)who joined up with the British 65th Battallion and came to NZ in the 1860s. The records I have said he came from Dromore and was a weaver. I would love to hear from anyone that knows how to trace that surname in Ireland - I cant seem to find any reference to it. I hope to come to Dromore some day soon - it looks amazing.
