I am researching my grandfather's family in the Dromore area. The family names are Preston, McIlrath, Frackleton and Patterson. They lived in the Banbridge, Dromore, Ballymoney, Seapatrick, Quilly, Balleny and Edinordinary areas. I have taken these locations from information I have on the family and have no real knowledge of the area as I live in Australia.
Hi all I enjoyed the site. I am descended from an Adam Kerr Born in Dromore in 1822 and his second wife Mary Ann Kelly (his first wife was Ann Downie) Adam’s father was a James Kerr and his mother was Margaret McKeown. Adam left Ireland and settled in Scotland in the late 1840s and had literally hundreds of descendants, but I've had some difficulty getting further back I’d welcome any clues to the earlier Kerrs of Dromore. A lovely web site, congratulations! I visited Dromore a few years ago but did not know at the time that my 4-g grandfather (John Jordan, b-1801) and his family were born there. They came to Canada in the mid 1830's. I can't wait to go back for another visit since I have this new information. I thoroughly enjoyed my first visit to Ireland. If there are any Jordan's left in the area, I would love to hear from you.

Came across the site by accident. Used to live in Dromore, up the Bishopswell Road as a youngster. Attended Dromore Central P.S. and can say i have really fond memories of Dromore. A real friendly town. Maybe i'll move back from Belfast one day. My grand parents lived on BALLYMcCORMICK ROAD near the orange hall, there was a store at the bottom of the road called the Dandy Cap. There were three cottages in a row. The families where The Whites, Mr. Murdock and my grand parents the Duncans. It would be nice to hear from anyone that knew them. I believe I still have a cousin that lives in the area. I live in Canada and have great memories of Dromore. I just found this site its absolutely wonderful. thanks for the tour. Just like to say hi to my friend James Gibson and wonder if ur coming over to Scotland for the open or pipe band champs. Hope to see you soon good to look at my home town I have lived on the outskirts of Dromore in a small townland called Skeogh for 33 years. It is a lovely town to be associated with and it is true what they say about the people being very friendly. I came across this website by accident but I am glad I did as it has been very interesting to read eveyones comments. Well done to whoever designed it! I'm from Vancouver, Canada and have got to know Jennifer McNeice quite well during her stay with us, here in Canada. My 3 children all love her to death and she has fit into our family here just perfectly. She is a wonderful person and my family and I will miss her dearly when she heads for home next month. If anyone from Dromore is reading this message please give our Love to her parents, Dr. & Mrs. Roy McNeice and her 2 brothers Andrew & Peter. We got to meet them briefly when they were out this way in Dec. My husband's father is from Co. Down so I do hope someday to come and visit. I have one particular Irish Lullaby I chose for each of my grandchildren that I "sing only for them". It's mainly to create memories that I love them each so specially and to educate them about their Irish heritage. For my eldest, William, I chose "The Castle of Dromore" Now he's 5 years old and want to know about it...but it's been VERY hard to find much information or photo of the Castle despite much searching on the internet. If you could help me find one, I'd appreciate it very much. I live in the S.E. corner of Michigan, United States. I am descended from Samuel Minnis (born abt 1770 Dromore, Down), came to New York around 1804, married Elizabeth Vandervoort in New York. Samuel's parents were William Minnis (born abt 1745, Ulster) married to Eleanor Orr (b abt 1753, Ballyknockan, Ulster (Wicklow County?). I have no more information about William. I would love to find out more about my Irish heritage! not a guest a resident.married a local girl,i still classed as an outsider but liked all the same.the town is full of good people with none of the problems that the name northern ireland carries.you can feel free to ask questions an get good awnswers in return.I am proud to bring my 2 children up in this kind of protected comunity.Dromore is a good place to live an a wonderful place to visit.look foward to seeing u.love dromore

Hello all you wonderful people. I live in Vancouver Canada and have been searching for my family for about five years. I am stuck at 1818 when William SHANKS left Ireland with wife Sarah and family of five. The only notice I have found is that He and wife Sarah arrived in New York aboard the ship WestPoint from Dromore Ireland between 1811 and 1820. Should any SHANKS read this please email me and lets see if you know any of what I know.I love to share.I found this web site via Annie - 29/11/04
Nice to see the town again - I remember when they used to try and keep the cattle out of Duffy's on Market Saturdays. My oldest Irish Waddell relative - James died in Dromore in 1620 and his son or nephew, Alexander rented land from the Maginness first at Linasuir and then at Ballykeel and Islanderry -before that they lived in Lanarkshire. So can anyone else go back as far as I have? It has been great fun.

Dromore is full of great people like Shelley. Rest in peace chum. xx In search of ancestors with surname Allsence, I hereby claim with my father, Philip J. Aulson, to make the Aulson to Allsence to Allsence-Ireland connection first! Hope to someday set foot in this beautiful land! - Sean T. Aulson My family and I have been trying to trace a particular surname in our family tree that was changed. The original name was "Allsence" and it was changed to Aulson. We are quite excited to find a reference in the 1776 Belfast news to an Alexander Allsence who appears to be leasing some land in Dromore. Can you recommend any genealogy services in the Northern Ireland area that could assist us in doing some research? (or, are there some that we should avoid?). Sean T. Aulson- 04/06/03

In 1803, my g-g-g-grandfather, Robert McCrea left Londonderry aboard the Mohawk, bound for Philadelphia, and the rest, as they say, is history. I originally come from Co Roscommon Ireland but now reside in Melbourne Ausralia & have been attempting to trace my fathers ancestors for the past 12 months. I came across this website quite by accident & I am fascinated by the amount of work put into it. Maybe when I retire I may just do something like this. I just love the Irish musical content & as I don't hear much Irish music nowadays it is nice to listen to. Keep up the good work. I love Dromore, it's like a second home, you make me feel welcome whenever I'm there, Love from Nottingham UK. Belle & Carole have been browsing on the Dromore website and think there should be more about the Motte & Bailey. Carole has been to Dromore recently, after 31 years in Australia, and she said there was no information regarding its history at the site. This is my first visit to the website and I shall be browsing here again to find out what else you say about our town. A very nice web site, giving a good impression of the area. The best place I have ever been to and no one will ever stop me coming back. A great site. but if there was a little more history facts on the town it would be even better. I have just found this site.and it as near to going home as you can get.will you add some photos of the mott, and the river (for my dad) Tony Mc Devitt - 25/10/00 A very well designed web-site.
